Development Resumes!

Thanks for making our first public beta a huge success.

Even though MySk8land is very much a work in progress- we saw over 10,000 users come in and play over the Summer and we've collected your feedback. Thanks for letting us know what you want. You will get it!

We're back in construction mode and hard at work on ramps, rails, and features- but first we're going to improve our registration/sign-up process. That was the number one problem we heard about. Enough already!

We're gearing up for a big holiday season.

Stay tuned.

MySk8land on Papervision3d blog today

Thanks to the folks at Papervision 3D blog for the write-up today!

http://blog.papervision3d.org/2008/02/21/mysk8land/

Of course, we had a registration error this morning--which was fixed--if you tried to log in previously and got an error--please try again :)

Something we get asked quite a bit--who are you guys? The answer is--we're big Donut Games (yes, it's a real company) but it's not our day job(s), at least not the jobs that currently put food on our tables. But we'd like it to. We think it's got potential, and we hope you do to.

I don't think you can call it a "game" quite yet. It's building blocks.

And we REALLY want to hear what you think. Tell us in the forums... Thanks all of your for helping us test!

MySk8land.com is in EARLY BETA!

The BDG gang--Randy, Thom, Darek and I--have decided now is a good time to let folks take a peek at what we've been working on for the last few months (in our "spare" time): a scalable, multiuser, real-time Flash 3D game engine. It's pretty rough right now on the finishing details, but I think you can see where it's going. We've built a modular zone loading program, general game asset administration system (including textures) and point-and-click physics test engine.

The core system utilizes Papervision 3D and a SmartFoxPro (demo) socket server. Everything else was built from scratch with Flex and Flash.

We'd love to hear some feedback--our next beta will include a commerce platform (for purchasing items), a "personal space" system that allows every user to customize and upgrade a room (like in a hotel), skateboarding tricks, more minigames (with a point reward system), more character models & animations... and much, much more.

This is really a proof of concept demo--we challenged ourselves to take a really cool, emerging technology--Papervision 3D--and do something that no one has done before: create a rudimentary MMO platform.

Stop by our forums and leave a message. Also, keep in mind the demo is limited to 20 simultaneous connections...
